Over the counter medication and other help from your pharmacist
For all patients: Doctors and nurses across the NHS have been asked not to prescribe medicines which are available over the counter directly from a pharmacist without a prescription. Under Pharmacy we explain what are the common over the counter medications your chemist can help you with and other support they offer.

Cressex Health Centre does not have an on-site pharmacy, however there are several pharmacies located nearby where patients can have their prescription dispensed.  We have a prescription team, who are happy to help.  For prescription queries please call reception and ask to speak with the prescriptions clerk who is available Monday to Fridays between 10am to 12pm.

Effective from 1st August 2020 – Changes to ordering of repeat prescriptions

Many patients have a ‘repeat prescription’ meaning that they can regularly receive certain medication without having to see their doctor each time.  Some people order these repeat prescriptions themselves. Others choose to use a nominated pharmacy or dispensing company to order medicines on their behalf.  Depending on how you request your medicines, the way that it works for you may change from 1 August 2018.  For further information please click on the CCG – Clinical Commissioning Group links below.

How can I request my repeat medication?

If you are a registered patient and need to take medication on a long term basis, you can order repeat medication by various means including completing a Repeat Prescription form (available from our reception desk) Online Access & via post/fax.  All patients are encouraged to register for on-line access and use our repeat medication ordering service which is easily accessible, user friendly and convenient.

If you require medication that is not on your repeat medication list then you will need to discuss this with a GP first.  The easiest way to do this is by arranging a telephone consultation.

How long does it take to process my repeat medication/hospital medication request?

Please allow 72 hours for us to process your repeat medication request.  You must allow an extra day if you want your prescription to be forwarded direct to a pharmacy ready for collection.

Outpatient prescriptions from the hospital and acute medication requests can take up to 5 working days to process.

Why do I need regular medication reviews?

To ensure we provide you with the most effective care we will conduct a review of your medication at regular intervals.  You may be required to attend an appointment with a clinician before a repeat prescription can be issued.  In such instances, we will ensure there is no break in the continuity of your care.

How do I apply for online access?

Please register first, this only take a few minutes.  To do this you’ll need to take two forms of identification (passport or driving licence and proof of address e.g. bill or bank statement) into your GP practice.  Please complete the short online access form Click here or pick one up at reception.  Please note you will need to be present with photo I.D before we can process your application.  Once processed you will then be provided with a Web address and log in details unique to you.

GP online services allow you to access a range of services via your Patient Access on your computer, mobile or tablet. You can also use the NHS App or visit their website to login.

Online services offer you:

  • the facility to book/view/amend appointments and order repeat prescriptions
  • the provision of online access to coded information in medical record and prospective medical record
  • the provision of online access to full digital medical record
  • a facility to provide and update personal or contact information
  • provision of an online consultation tool

You can still contact the practice by phone or in person; this is just another option which other patients have found is more convenient and saves them time. More information including “how to” leaflets and videos of patients and why they are using GP online services are available at GP Online
