Test results

Getting your test results

Whenever possible, test results will be discussed with you after a test has taken place. If it is not possible to discuss test results with you immediately, for example if a blood sample has to be sent off to the laboratory for analysis, your clinician will explain when you will receive these results.

Generally speaking:
– Most blood test results are available within five working days (ie not including Saturday and Sunday)
– Most x-ray results are available within a month
– Cervical smear tests are posted directly to the patient within eight weeks

If your test results show that you need more tests or treatment, we will contact you.

Once a doctor has reviewed your test results, you can view them:

  • in your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
  • in your Patient Access account
  • phone or visit us after 11am and we will tell you what the results are
  • Please note: our receptionists are not medically trained and can only pass on what the doctor has told them so please be patient and do not press them for further information as they will not be authorized to give it.
